Marilia Fotopoulou is a visual artist based in Athens, Greece. She studied in the first year of the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts and then studied Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art at the Technological Institute of Athens. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Athens School of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Arts, with honors. Since 2011, Marilia has been a member of the teaching staff at the Photography Lab of the Athens School of Fine Arts.

Her works have been exhibited at the Benaki Museum, the MOMus-Museum of Photography in Thessaloniki, the 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art and the Grand Palais in Paris. In 2015 she was distinguished by the Hellenic Center of Photography and was selected to participate in the exhibition “Young Greek Photographers”. In 2020 she presented part of her work in the main program of the Athens Photo Festival. Her works are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki, at the Jewish Museum of Greece, as well as in private collections.

Her photographic practice explores notions concerning the presence of memory within space, exploring its fluid coexistence with oblivion. Over time, she has incorporated archival practices into her work.
